Do you prefer a DEX or CEX for trading?
Do you guys prefer trading on a decentralized exchange (DEX) or centralized exchange (CEX)? I know a lot of people have moved over to DEXs for the whole “not your keys, not your coins” philosophy, but I’ve personally stuck with CEXs for most of my trades and here’s why:
- Liquidity & Speed – CEXs still win when it comes to deep order books and faster execution. I’ve tried swapping mid-cap tokens on DEXs and sometimes it’s a slippage nightmare or you’re waiting forever for a good fill.
- UI/UX matters – Platforms like Binance, Coinbase Pro, or Levex have a way smoother user experience. DEXs are getting better, but sometimes they still feel clunky, especially when you’re managing multiple wallets and chains.
- Fiat on/off ramp – This one’s huge for me. I can deposit/withdraw fiat easily with CEXs. Most DEXs don’t handle that, so you’re always hopping between platforms anyway.
- Security through accountability – I know this might sound weird given all the CEX hacks we’ve seen, but major exchanges do have insurance and are regulated to some extent. With a DEX, if you fat-finger a trade or get caught in a scam token, you’re pretty much on your own.
Now I do keep a bag or two on-chain and I love the autonomy that DEXs offer. But for serious trading, I still lean centralized.

Agree with most of it, though on/offramping wouldn’t be an issue for me anyway as I can always deposit stables into a cex.
I’ll add that most dexes have a pretty centralized core behind the scenes.
