Is bitcoin price fueled by hype alone?

I think Bitcoin has that many investors because it was the first coin and is the most well know so far. Aren’t there other coins that are better than bitcoin when it comes to technology like faster and cheaper transactions? This makes me think bitcoin’s price is fueled by hype alone. Also, is bitcoin’s price based on speculation (about its potential to be used in the future)?

If the general population got wiser to how some altcoins are better, couldn’t there be a big change in how people invest in which they would invest in the better coins and leave bitcoin?
