I have a friend whos in Acala and have minted a fair few aUSD to borrow..no clue what happens next but it seems this wasn’t a planned attack or hack..just a user who found an exploit in the iBTC pool and minted themselves over 1 billion aUSD

In my eyes, the developers are not the only ones to blame. In my opinion, those who have checked the smart contracts bear a significant share of the blame, since not every user has the opportunity to check smart contracts themselves.
