Seed phrases shouldn’t be a thing anymore

Serious question. The whole seed phrase system feels like something built for early adopters, not normal people. One mistake, one leak one lost backup and it’s game over. There’s literally no reset or support with this.

We’ve upgraded everything else in tech, but crypto security is still basically here are 12/24 random words don’t mess this up for the rest of your life

There’s gotta be better solutions. What’s your take?

I think the better framing is: seed phrases are still a good recovery primitive, but they are a terrible default user interface.

Normal users should not have to pass a one-time memory/filing-cabinet test to keep their money forever. The problem is that the replacement has to preserve the one thing seed phrases do well: no helpdesk, no bank-style account reset, no single company that can freeze or recover everything.

The realistic path is probably layers, not one magic replacement:

  1. Hardware signer or passkey for daily use.

  2. Spending limits and time delays for anything abnormal.

  3. Social/multisig recovery for loss scenarios.

  4. Clear separation between hot funds and long-term storage.

  5. Transaction simulation that explains the actual outcome, not just the address and fee.

  6. A recoverability score that tells a user, in plain English, what happens if their phone dies, their laptop is stolen, or one guardian disappears.

Seed phrases should become the break-glass backup for people who want maximum sovereignty, not the first screen a normal person sees. If crypto wants mainstream users, the wallet has to make the safe path obvious without quietly turning custody back into “trust this company forever.”
